Zoo Globe Shadow Box Card

Last night, I watched a Jennifer McGuire video on making Shadow Box Cards, and I was dying to try it out! Her instructions were incredibly clear and easy to follow. I just made notes and created my own tutorial to try to follow later. I wanted to keep it simple on the front so the inside of the card would be a knockout! I absolutely love the animals in the Zoo Globe Stamp set, and they were perfect for this card.

Here is the color palette used for this card

For this card, I started with a Whisper White base and added a circle layer of Misty Moonlight using the Layering Circles Dies. I stamped the elephant and bird in Memento Tuxedo Black and then colored them with my Watercolor Pencils and finished them off with my Water Painters. I fussy cut the bird and attached it to the elephant’s back.

I stamped the sentiments from the Free As A Bird Stamp Set in Tuxedo Black on the inside and outside of the card.

Now here is where it got fiddly! I fussy cut everything because there are no does for the stamp set. I am not a fan of fussy cutting, but it was worth it! You can’t tell from the photo, but there are multiple layers which are apparent with the movement of the card.

I take terrible videos (sorry), but I wanted you to see how the card opens up. I love this concept so much and am going to have another go when I get time to get up in the Hen House again! The best part is that it folds nice and flat to go in an envelope!

Joy Fold Thank You Card

I just love Fun Fold Card and had come across a tutorial posted by Vickie Lou Designs. I decided to try my hand at it, and came up with an amazing Thank You card!

Here is the color palette used for this card

I used Misty Moonlight for the card base and Bumblebee for the inner card base. I used the Flowers for Every Season DSP and the Bloom and Grow stamps/Budding Blooms dies for the image. I used my watercolor pencils and Water Painters to color the stamped images and then die cut them and layered them to the front tab.

I stamped my sentiments in Misty Moonlight and added a few flower clusters in Bumblebee after stamping off.

Best Dad Z-Fold Card

Today, I wanted to make a card to send to my dad, as I haven’t been able to see him since all the crazy happened. I was itching to make another Z-Fold card because they are just so much fun!

Here is the color palette used for this card

I used Night of Navy for the base and layered Crumb Cake on top. I used the Pinewood Planks Embossing Folder and then used sponge daubers in Gray Granite to add some color.

I used the dies from Hippo & Friends to make the tags and cut gears out of Gray Granite and used the sponge daubers again to add a little depth. I colored the car with a Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Write Marker and covered the entire car in Crystal Effects. This was such a fun card to make! I was able to get it in the mail to him today, and I can’t wait to hear from him!

Water Shaker Card… Who Knew?!?!

Today, I saw a card made by Dorothee Coudroy and I HAD to attempt it. I just couldn’t believe that there was actually water in the card. She has a tutorial on her YouTube channel, so I decided to check it out. Unfortunately for me, the tutorial was 100% in French, and while I could understand about 1 in 10 words (my French is BEYOND rusty}, the tutorial was so well done that I was able to grasp the basic construction concept. I am so thrilled with the results!

Here is the color palette used for this card

I changed a few things from Dorothee’s card, but kept it pretty close to see if I could make it work. I honestly didn’t expect to have such great success right out of the gate!

If you need any of the supplies used to make this card, just click the “Add to Cart” button and it will do the work for you. (Sorry, it won’t make the card for you!)

Another Z-Fold Card, this time using Painted Poppies

I loved making the Z-Fold Card for the challenge at The Dimensionals yesterday so much that I had to try another, this time using the Painted Poppies Bundle. Again, I am over the moon with the results and I can’t believe that I have never done this before!

Here is the color palette used

All of the materials (except the embossing folder) used can be found on my website.

Stamps: Painted Poppies, Peaceful Moments

Dies: Poppy Moments, Hippo & Friends

Cardstock: Basic Black, Whisper White, Poppy Parade, Gorgeous Grape, Granny Apple Green

Ink: Memento -Tuxedo Black, Poppy Parade, Gorgeous Grape

Misc.: Embossing Folder (Non SU), Daubers, Adhesives

I was not fortunate enough to get the DSP that came in the suite before it retired, so I made my own using the stamps in the bundle and I am happy with how it turned out, especially because I have white space to write a message.

Once again, I used a dauber on the die cut flower pieces with the matching ink in order to add a little depth.

Challenge: Z Fold Card

Yesterday, I stumbled upon this really cool group of Australian SU demonstrators – The Dimensionals. Every month they publish a set of tutorials for 3-D projects and when you purchase the tutorials, you also receive access to their Facebook group. This morning, they sent out a challenge to make a Z-Fold Card. The tutorial used the Perfect Peony set, which I don’t have yet, so I used the new Celebrate Sunflowers set and I am ridiculously happy with how it turned out! The tutorial was very easy to follow, and in not too terribly much time, I had this beautiful card to share!

Here is the color palette used

For this card, I used the following:

Stamps: Celebrate Sunflowers, Peaceful Moments (Sentiment)

Dies: Sunflower Dies, Hippo & Friends Dies

Cardstock: Whisper White, Bumblebee, Cinnamon Cider, Just Jade

Ink: Bumblebee, Just Jade, Cinnamon Cider, Pumpkin Pie

Misc.: Flowers For Every Season DSP, Retired SU Embossing Folder (I have no idea what it is), Dauber Brushes, Glue

All of these products can be found on my website at http://KimOwens.stampinup.net

I daubed ink onto the sunflower parts and leaves to add some depth before putting them together and I am pleased with how it turned out!
